RESIDENCIES

Inside Out Art Museum, Beijing, China

Produced in part with support from Inside Out Art Museum
May 5 — June 3, 2015

Attending IOAM Artist Residency in May 2015 provided me with a brief introduction to the people and culture of China. The opportunity to meet world class artists and administrators expanded my knowledge of contemporary and historic Chinese art. I alternated painting in the studio with tours of art schools, museums, galleries, gardens, and historic sites. The publication on my blog of 46 travel posts was a substantial focus of my work during the residency. Following four weeks in Beijing, I went to Shanghai for an additional week. There I toured university graduate school art programs, architectural sites, museums, and the city itself. Please see links below for the travel blog link and artwork.

To see all blog posts click here for my China Travel Journal or select the tab above marked PROJECTS > INTERNATIONAL. Because it’s a blog, the order of dates is last to first. Scroll to the bottom to select page tabs and read first to last, pages 1 thru 6.

The Meditations of Rabbit and Pierrot is a picture book of original gouache paintings. The book is a wordless narrative of two characters, a toy rabbit and a silk costumed doll. Each start out in isolated reveries until the two meet — Rabbit, a happy-go-lucky bon-vivant, and Pierrot, a naive and questioning clown.
