DeCordova Museum

September 1, 2011 by Laraine Armenti, visual artist

decordova

I am extremely pleased to become a lending artist of DeCordova Museum's Corporate Loan Program. DeCordova Museum was the first museum I visited regularly as a child with my family. In my twenties, I took night classes in figure drawing for several years at the museum's school. The main building is high on a wooded hill overlooking pristine Sandy Pond, a near neighbor of Walden Pond. A former … [Read more...]

ANE / Benn — Conclusion

August 10, 2011 by Laraine Armenti, visual artist

capa composite

I was happy with the long sought efficiency of my painting field equipment. The Soltek easel proved to be extremely versatile. It was able to hold two stretched linens at once, providing stability to both while simultaneously painting across them for the diptych shown above. A helpful musician from the "Chamber Music Conference & Composer's Forum of the East", the group that is on campus with … [Read more...]

Mass MoCA & Middlebury

July 31, 2011 by Laraine Armenti, visual artist

One of the advantages of attending summer school at Bennington College is its proximity to great collections and exhibitions in the region. The Clark Institute in Williamstown, Mass MocA in North Adams, and Middlebury College Museum in Middlebury, Vermont, are all within a day trip's driving distance. Clark has El Anatsui and Pissarro's People. My favorite exhibit of many good ones at Mass … [Read more...]

All the locations are within easy walking distance of downtown. The area has excellent restaurants mixed with quirky shops and easy parking. The team of three jurors chose one of twenty artists to receive the award for Best of … [Read more...]

October 28, 2010 by Laraine Armenti, visual artist

There was plenty of positive energy, gorgeous New England fall weather, and a steady flow of visitors at the Holliston Open Studios last weekend. Many thanks to the Holliston Mill artists for a well organized and publicized event, and for their commitment and generous spirit of reaching out to include guest artists. Studio Feng Shui

May 2, 2010 by Laraine Armenti, visual artist

Preparations for the studio open house are in progress. A lucky few arts professionals received invitations by mail. Those who are able to attend will be welcomed on Wednesday for one-on-ones with seven artists. The event will be followed by a Friends & Family open house on a later Sunday afternoon. Artists are one of the last remaining professional sub-cultures hidden from mainstream society. … [Read more...]
