VCCA Train Bridge

April 26, 2009 by Laraine Armenti, visual artist

Settling in at VCCA, I began by looking around on the first day by taking a walk and a bike ride, to let the place emerge before setting up to paint. After fishing for views with a sketchbook and pen, a pattern is developing. I pack a gouache kit in the morning and an oil kit in the afternoon. The gouache palette is limited to red, yellow, blue and white. I have twice as many colors for oils with a warm and cool of each primary. So far so good. Later this location was revealed to be full of chiggers, a southern menace unknown to me. None found me.
