Art New England Workshops

I completed two weeks of workshop study in July at Art New England in Bennington, Vermont; courses offered by Mass College of Art: Book Arts taught by Valerie Carrigan; and Rethinking Landscape taught by Emily Eveleth. I strongly recommend the ANE program to anyone interested in packing a semester’s worth of intensive study into one week, instructed by world class artists. More photos can be seen on my facebook page. Here is the ANE facebook link.

I worked on 10″x10″ gessoed paper with oil for outdoor painting.

Intense sun, humidity, wind and bugs were harder to cope with than days of rain.

Simplified demonstrations by a very patient instructor of her cleverly designed projects made it easy to complete many books even though I’d never done any bookbinding before.

The cool lamps were provided by the program.

Paste Paper, made using methyl cellulose and acrylic paint on Mohawk Vellum, was used to decorate hardcover bound books and as wrappers.
